Mike from Mike’s Monsters released a nice video about Neil Blomkamp’s unmade Alien film, discussing how the project came to be over the years, sharing concept art, story, direction, creatures, comments by the filmmakers and actors, and the eventual cancellation.
Towards the end of the video (at 37:17), Mike said he was told some plot details about Blomkamp’s alien film by the former executives, folks who worked on the special effects. While he wasn’t able to share everything about the plot yet in case it may get reused in future projects, he did share this plot detail:
“During the excavation and research of the Derelict ship, we were going to find out it was made out of human DNA, created by Xenomorphs. The Xenomorphs were going to use their saliva and bodily fluids to take humans and rewrite their DNA into building a spacecraft, like the crashed ship we saw in Alien. So we come to find out that that ship was also made out of human DNA. It was described to me as District 9 with Xenomorphs, but emphasized not in a good way.”
Not sure how I feel about that.
The video:
Wow. I had to re-read that quote 5 times to understand it! LOL!
Smart xenomorphs? Building spaceships? Sounds like a predator ( Yautja )
Yeah, no.
My thoughts exactly.
Eggmorphing dialed up to 11.
It kind of reminded me of one of the unmade Alien 3 drafts, I think it was Eric Red's draft, in which an army of Xenomorphs fuse to form a giant Xenomorph creature, like wtf.
No thanks, so glad that it wasn't made. To me, it sounds like Alien Resurrection in quality, if you disliked Prometheus then I wonder what you would have thought about this one.
I know I'm a total ASS now but I wouldn't mind if Neill would quit making films whatsoever. Elysium and Chappie left a lot to be desired and his films just got worse imho. His strength solely lies in the vfx.
Annnnnd now I'm very glad we never got Alien 5 hahaha Xenomorphs creating the Derelict with Human DNA would have totally gone against Prometheus lore and the establishment of those ships being Engineer creations... unless the suggestion was that Engineers were a genetic succession to the Xenomorph by splicing Human DNA... Nope, too messy lol. Blomkamp had me in the first half but after hearing this, I'm glad we got Romulus instead.
Front paged this as well for ya Nebula!
What a bummer, not.
